According to Thoman Pardosi, Head of Jakarta BPS, deflation in Jakarta is due to expenditure of foodstuff and health groups. The high supply in the market also caused the inflation of the foodstuff group to hit -1.14 percent.

"Like chili price that had hit Rp 115,000 per kg, and now decline 40 percent," he expressed, Thursday (5/4).

City Economic Growth in April Weakened to 0.02 Percent

Based on 461 commodities recorded, some that have donated deflation are red chili pepper (-0.0735 percent), red onion (-0.0453 percent), cayenne pepper (-0.0423 percent) and air transportation (-0.0306 percent). Then for other commodities is under 0.2 percent.

Addition to foodstuff expenditures, there are also health (-0.22 percent) and transportation, communication and finance service (-0.02).

As for the two groups that experiencing the highest inflation are clothing (0.55 percent) and housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel (0.46 percent).

Ahead of Ramadhan, he added, foodstuff supply must be aware in order to avoid scarcity of stock on the market. Thus the rising basic electricity tariff (TDL) that triggers inflation could be offset by supply of foodstuffs.

"If the food demand is restricted, this is surely impossible. So the important thing is the government must maintain the supply," he closed.
